We have all, at some point in our lives, turned on the television or picked up a newspaper to learn of a cyber attack on a financial institution, government agency or, more concerning, a healthcare provider. In 2021, it’s estimated the world is losing $600 trillion a year to cybercrime, with annual costs projected to increase by 15% for the next 5 years.

The wider focus on cybercrime must now shift from the cost of the crime to the new and innovative solutions that will hopefully lead to its eradication or reduction in severity. For too long, the response to cybercrime has been to spend more money on cybersecurity in the defence of an organisation's assets or data.

It is an approach that, whilst understandable, does not appear to be yielding the desired results. There must now be a shift towards developing an offensive approach, one that provides a business with the hacker's perspective on the security posture of their entire attack surface on a continuous basis.

This shift could come courtesy of BreachLock and their Penetration Testing as a Service. The company, formed in 2019, has a vision to perfect and deliver a cognitive automation-driven PenTesting solution. The company has already made a difference in the industry, but with 3.5 million vacancies left unfilled in cybersecurity, progress is not being made quickly enough.

"There's a huge shortage of cybersecurity talent despite a lot of investments being made in cybersecurity, but breaches still continue to happen," said BreachLock CEO Seemant Sehgal. "This proves that we need to change the way we view this problem."

The industry-wide investment in Cybersecurity is expected to hit $172 billion in 2022, but Sehgal is convinced a new approach is required. "So, why is it that cybercriminals are using AI to steal from companies? Why is the industry not making use of those same components? We’ll see a big shift where players will have a new way of looking at the problem and use artificial intelligence to help strengthen their cyber defence."

BreachLock's fast, scalable and comprehensive Pentesting Service, with a market-disrupting hybrid manual, artificial intelligence (AI) and automation approach, could be the game changer for Technology and Security leaders who need to prevent expensive breaches without increasing security risks. The capability for a business to test its cybersecurity structures with an efficient, affordable platform that utilises AI and certified hackers is a critical step towards combating the illegal hackers that are the scourge of the digital world.

The pentest service that BreachLock provides its clients is comprehensive and extensive. The pentest revolves around a controlled attack on the vulnerabilities and known weak spots of a company's web application and data, before recommendations are made to solve the issues. This will then lead to a further retest and, outcome permitting, a twelve-month security certificate.

In the spirit of collaboration, BreachLock recently shared an Annual Penetration Testing Intelligence Report with the cybersecurity community. The report, containing valuable data and insights from thousands of SaaS-based PenTests, ensures the community can be aware of current vulnerability trends.

"There is great importance in sharing knowledge with the cybersecurity community as a whole," said Sehgal. "Having a SaaS-based PenTesting solution has given BreachLock valuable data and insights from thousands of PenTests which was most recently shared with the community in the form of the Annual Penetration Testing Intelligence Report."

The solution BreachLock has brought to the market is already making a difference to the industry. Therefore, it could be argued, the time to switch from traditional PenTesting to PenTesting as a service with BreachLock, has arrived.
