For 212 years, The Hartford has provided people with the support and protection they need to pursue their unique ambitions, seize opportunity and prevail through unexpected challenges.

Founded in 1810, the iconic insurer has enabled many great achievements in American history. For example, the company insured President Abraham Lincoln’s home in Illinois and President Dwight Eisenhower’s 190-acre farm, provided personal-accident insurance to Babe Ruth, and covered landmarks such as the Hoover Dam and the Golden Gate Bridge.

“Innovation and ingenuity are core to who we are as a nation and core to who we are at The Hartford.”

Christopher Swift, the Chairman and CEO, The Hartford

Chistopher Swift elaborates, “time and time again this country and The Hartford have demonstrated the power to solve complex problems and focus the right resources on the right solutions.”

Today, The Hartford’s customers include millions of people who own or lead businesses of all sizes – ranging from boutique shops to multi-national corporations. The company protects tens of millions of American workers with benefits such as workers’ compensation, group life and disability insurance. As a leading provider of disability insurance and workers’ compensation, The Hartford has unique data and provides customers with insights to reduce workplace injuries and help injured workers return to healthy, productive lives.

“Specialization is critical,” said A. Morris “Mo” Tooker, head of Middle & Large Commercial, Global Specialty and Sales & Distribution at The Hartford. “Our customers expect us to understand their business inside and out, and we have deep expertise in our risk engineering, claims and underwriting teams.”

In addition to large companies, The Hartford provides insurance to nearly 1.5 million small businesses and was one of the first insurance companies to create a dedicated business unit for small-business customers about 40 years ago.

“When you think about small business in the United States, it’s really the heartbeat of our U.S. economy.”

Stephanie Bush, head of Small Commercial and Personal Lines, The Hartford.

“It’s also the heartbeat of local economies. And then when you bring it forward to the small business owner, it’s that individual that has a passion, that has a craft, that has a gift that they want to bring forward into their local community” says Stephanie Bush.

Beyond tailored products and services, the company is using the latest technology to meet consumers’ needs today and in the future.

“We have an aggressive technology agenda for the next three to five years,” said Chief Information Officer Deepa Soni. “We are operating as a 212-year-old startup that is bringing the power and scale of leading technologies to shape the future of insurance for our customers.”

Swift added, “We know we are performing for all of our stakeholders – in our organization, in our communities. We have valued customers and distribution partners – and we want them to experience our innovative and creative product solutions that we are building for the future, our brand, what we stand for, and our caring and empathetic employees. We have all the ingredients for great success going forward.”
